Temple of Heaven -- Seen as the most holy of Beijing's imperial temples, temple of Heaven has been described as "a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design". It was where the emperor came every winter solstice to worship Heaven and to solemnly pray for a good harvest. The architecture of the temple represents two themes: in the heaven and on the earth. The 6 meters high walls of the temple constitute a semi- circle in the north and a semi- rectangle in the south. This special layout illustrates an important belief in ancient China that the heaven is round and the earth rectangular. The northern section of the wall is high while the south is low, which means that the heaven is higher and superior to earth. The Temple of Heaven has been nominated by the UNESCO as a world heritage.

Forbidden City -- Forbidden City, also known as Palace Museum, was home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the ancient time, the emperor claimed to be the son of the heaven and such divine place was certain forbidden for the ordinary people and it is why the Forbidden City is so called. Covers an area of about 150, 000 square meters, the museum is a real treasures house of Chinese cultural and historical relics, recognized as one of the most important five palaces in the world. The splendid architecture of the Forbidden City represents the essence and culmination of the traditional Chinese architectural accomplishment. In 1961 the Palace Museum was listed as one of the important historical monuments under the special preservation by the Chinese central government and in 1987, it was nominated as the world cultural heritage by the UNESCO.

Beihai Park -- Beihai Park is one of the most famous and beautiful parks in Beijing, which once served as an imperial garden during the Liao Dynasty over 800 years ago. Until the eve of the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, it had been an imperial garden exclusively for the royal family. The garden, which once held a large amount of national treasure, was all looted by the Eight-Power Allied Force as they invaded Beijing and completely destroyed the garden in 1900. Since 1925 the garden has been open to ordinary visitors as a public park. The whole park is divided into five scenic zones: Qiong Isle, Tuancheng or Tuan City, Dongan, or East Bank, and the Beihai Arboretum. Each one has its enchanting features. The greenness and large variety of architectural styles in the park display the features of gardens in both northern and southern Imperial China.
